Conclusions
The evaluation revealed a well preserved, east to west aligned, boundary ditch, of uncertain date and containing well preserved environmental remains. It may be Roman or medieval in origin and is considered to be of interest to our understanding of the origins of the settlement. As such it is desirable that its date and alignment are firmly established. Any associated features would also be of importance. In particular evidence to support a Roman date would be of significance. Roman pottery recovered from the site and other Roman artefacts and features recorded nearby, argue for the presence of settlement of that date in the vicinity.
