SPICE is now on Facebook
SPICE (St John’s People In Community Enterprise) is an umbrella name for all the different things St John’s church do in the community. Our church is based on the estate of Greenlands and there are some long-standing groups ongoing there like parents and toddlers and Short Mat Bowls. Under Rev Garth Nathaniel, the aim continues to take church out into the community. As a church we take seriously what Jesus said when he told us to love God first and foremost and then to love our neighbours as ourselves. We believe that Christianity is all about relationship – relationship first of all with the God who made us and loves us and secondly our relationships with other people – no matter who they are!
So as Woodrowspice, we meet with other organisations like the library, What’s Your Point and the police. We support their activities and work with them and the county councillors to put on joint ventures like the summer fun day and Christmas Carols in the Woodrow community centre. We visit homes in the area and offer to do practical jobs where needed, especially the gardens of the elderly. We have lots of involvement in the local schools, taking assemblies, RE lessons and running an after school club. The work is constantly changing and evolving.
